AGS Battery Warranty Explained: What's Covered and How to Claim
A genuine AGS battery comes with a real manufacturer warranty — but many customers lose out simply because they don't know how it works. Here's the plain-English version.
What the warranty usually covers
AGS batteries carry a warranty against manufacturing defects — typically issues present from the factory, such as:
- Internal short circuits
- Premature failure under normal use within the warranty period
- Manufacturing faults in the plates or casing
If the battery fails within the warranty period due to a defect, it is repaired or replaced (often on a pro-rata basis in later years).
What is NOT covered (and what voids the warranty)
Warranty does not cover damage caused by how the battery is used or maintained:
- Deep discharge / leaving it flat — the most common cause, and not covered.
- Overcharging — a faulty alternator or charger boiling the battery dry.
- Physical damage — cracks, bulging from heat, dropped or impact-damaged cases.
- Wrong application — using a small battery in a heavy vehicle.
- Neglect — running a conventional battery dry of water.
- No proof of purchase — the warranty is tied to the original invoice.
How to claim (keep it painless)
- Keep the original invoice/receipt — it has the purchase date and is your proof. Without it, a claim is hard.
- Bring the battery in to an Authorized AGS Dealer (like us) — don't throw it away.
- We test it to confirm the failure mode.
- If it's a covered defect, we process the warranty claim through AGS on your behalf.
- You get a repair/replacement per the warranty terms.
Buy genuine to get a real warranty
Counterfeit or grey-market "AGS" batteries may look identical but carry no valid warranty — the serial number won't register with AGS. Only buy from an authorized dealer.
As an Authorized Atlas Batteries (AGS) Distributor, United Batteries handles warranty claims directly. Keep your invoice and bring the battery in — we make the process quick.
